Outreach Support at Dysart
At Dysart, we recognise the important role we play in supporting local provisions to fully include pupils, enabling those pupils to better access the curriculum and to achieve their full potential. To facilitate this, we actively promote the inclusion of pupils with a broad range of learning needs within their current provision through a collaborative partnership with parents, other professionals, schools and, of course, the pupils themselves.
Nature of Outreach Support
Our staff team comprises of teachers and support staff who have specialist knowledge across a wide range of Special Educational Needs. Our team are well trained and have exceptional pedagogical knowledge and understanding. For example, at a conference led by Prof Barry Carpenter in June 2018, one of our teachers presented on his work using Engagement Profiles; our curriculum team will present on the development of our new curriculum at a conference organised by Richard Hirstwood in Autumn 2018.
In terms of SEND Outreach support, we specialise in the following areas:
– Autism Spectrum Disorders;
– Speech and Language / Communication;
– Sensory / Pre-formal and Semi-Formal learners;
– Promoting positive behaviour / attitudes to learning for learners who are at a Pre-Formal / Semi-Formal level;
We are in the process of looking to secure the rights to deliver positive behaviour training for provisions within the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames. As well as that, Dysart is able to offer MIDAS minibus training, with two members of our team being certified MIDAS trainers.
Outreach support can incorporate a number of elements including advice and consultation, training, joint planning, modelling of techniques and strategies, assessment and individual or small group work. We also facilitate inclusion visits to Dysart, providing opportunities for staff from mainstream schools to visit our school and to observe / work alongside our staff.
Costs
We are mindful that budgets are being squeezed nationally and that schools are increasingly required to do more with less. As a result, our Outreach support is competitively priced. Each piece of Outreach is unique and precise costs will vary according to the needs of individual pupils and schools.
