ASD-Friendly Cinema Treat!
In order to expand on our leisure and hobbies curriculum and visit new and fun places, students in the Upper School have started visiting the Odeon Cinema in Kingston.
The special performances have subtle changes to the cinema environment which mean that people who have sensory difficulties have a more positive experience than they would in a traditional cinema setting.
Changes include:
- The lights are kept on at a low level for those who struggle with the dark
- The volume is kept low to help those who suffer from auditory sensitivity
- No trailers or advertisements – just the film
- Viewers can walk around the cinema during the performance.
As part of a developing relationship with Kingston Odeon, Dysart has arranged for them to increase their ASD showings so that everyone can access them.
